Admission
Our admission process can be made much easier for you, if the following simple guidelines are followed.
- Medical aid patients should check with their medical aid / scheme prior to admission to obtain pre-authorisation, if deemed necessary by the medical aid / scheme.
- Patients have to present their medical aid card and identity document on admission. Persons under the age of 18 have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- To speed up admission, a pre-admission form is available from your doctor`s rooms and the hospital`s reception, and should be either handed to the hospital`s reception or faxed through to us 48 hours prior to hospitalisation if possible (Pre-admission fax number: 044 384 1272).
- Also refer to the “Tariffs” and “Discharge” sections below, for more information on prepayment and payment procedures. Please click here to find our contact details.
- Please ensure that all valuables are left at home. If you choose to bring valuables to hospital, we do provide safes in the ward or next to your bedside. Please note that we will not be held liable for any loss incurred for whatever reason.
Discharge
On leaving, do not forget to collect your medication and x-rays. You will be given a brown discharge card to hand in at the reception desk in the foyer as you leave. When you hand this in, your account will be finalised – private patients must settle their account immediately while medical aid patients’ accounts will be submitted to the relevant medical aid by the hospital.
General
The staff and management of the Life Knysna Private Hospital realize that hospitalisation is usually not a planned excursion. We strive, at all times, to make your stay as short, cost effective and pleasant as possible.
Management are available at all times to answer any questions.
Service monitoring
In keeping with our goal to continue providing high quality care; we monitor our service to patients on an ongoing basis. During their stay and on discharge patients are asked to complete a questionnaire regarding their stay at the hospital. Participation is voluntary, but this will assist the hospital management to address any problems and improve our service to you.
We especially welcome any suggestions our patients may have. If you have any suggestions for us, please send us an e-mail at carmen.grobler@lifehealthcare.co.za.
Tariffs
- We are contracted to most medical aids.
- Private and foreign patients are charged competitive rates to medical aid negotiated rates.
- A full estimated pre payment is required prior to hospitalisation for patients not covered by a medical scheme.
- All private accounts have to be settled on discharged unless an arrangement has been made with the Hospital Manager.
Valuables
Valuables should be handed in to the sister in charge who will record it in a register and lock it away in the ward safe. Please also make sure that spectacles, dentures and bridges are kept in a safe place. The hospital will not be liable for valuables not declared to nursing staff.
Visiting hours
We welcome all of our patients’ visitors, as we know what a difference the support of close family and friends can make.
In light of this, we also have to be aware of the rest that all of our patients require and we have thus provided for visitors to visit our hospitals only at certain designated times and these are:
- 11:00 - 12:00
- 15:00 - 16:00
- 19:00 - 20:00
Visits outside these times will be allowed only with the permission of the Sister in charge.
Further to this, other rules apply with respect to visitors and these are:
- Visitors are restricted to two per patient at a time. Children are welcome but they must have an adult supervising them at all times. No children under twelve will be allowed to enter the ICU or Maternity unit.
- In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and high care wards, we only allow two visitors per patient.
- In the maternity unit only and space permitting, fathers are allowed to stay over the first night after the birth of the baby to support the mother.
