At Life St Dominic`s Hospital everything we do is focused on the delivery of high quality treatment and special, unique standards of care - whether for routine, more serious or extensive procedures.

  • A 211 bed hospital with 5 theatres
  • A new, dedicated cardiac theatre, catheterisation laboratory and 8-bed cardiac intensive care unit with a highly skilled and dedicated multidisciplinary team.
  • A brand new 8 bed medical intensive care unit an 8 bed general intensive care unit and a 10 bed surgical intensive care unit.
  • An oncology centre offering comprehensive cancer management, incorporating chemotherapy and radiotherapy together with an extensive counselling programme.
  • A radiology facility, with a comprehensive range of sophisticated diagnostic equipment. This facility includes a CT scanner, mammography and x-rays.
  • A sophisticated 24-hour trauma and emergency unit.
  • A Life Rehabilitation unit providing acute, cognitive rehabilitation to patients who have been disabled by traumatic brain injury and other disabling conditions thus facilitating optimal possible functional independence.

Patient and visitor information

At Life St Dominic`s Hospital, we take pride in providing you with information and pre-operative counselling, so that your recuperation is comfortable and hassle-free.

Accommodation at our hospital is extensive and includes:

  • Six bed wards
  • Three bed wards
  • Private wards

Private wards are usually equipped with an en suite bathroom, a telephone and TV.


The following items are required for admission:

  • Current medical aid membership card
  • Identity document
  • Pre-authorisation number, if applicable
  • X-rays, if applicable
  • Medication, if in use
  • Personal clothing and toiletries

A parent or legal guardian must accompany all patients under 18 years.


Day patients undergoing surgery under anaesthetic should arrange for transport from hospital - it is illegal to drive for 24 hours following anaesthetic.

Pre-Admission centre

We understand how stressful it is to be booked into hospital for surgery, particularly when you have never been a patient in a hospital before. This is why we have two pre-admission centres to assist you with your admission. The centres streamline the admission process and assist to allay the fears of patients by providing information on the surgery to be performed. Pre-authorisation is also obtained from the medical aids.

St Dominic`s charges medical aid / medical scheme rates. Private patients will be required to pay a deposit on admission, and to settle the balance of their accounts on discharge. Patients who are members of certain medical aids may also have to make a co-payment on admission. For more details regarding tariffs and payment, please contact the hospital’s accounts department.

Visiting hours

We welcome all of our patients` visitors, as we know what a difference the support of close family and friends can make to a patients recovery. In light of this we have introduced open visiting times in our hospital.

Our visiting times are:

General Wards:

  • 10:00 - 12:00
  • 14:00 - 20:00

Strictly 2 visitors per patient

Intensive Care Unit (ICU):

  • 11:00 - 12:00
  • 15:00 - 16:00
  • 19:15 - 20:00

Only the immediate family of the patient are permitted to visit whilst the patient is in ICU. A maximum of 2 visitors will be allowed per bed, and no children under the age of 12 years will be permitted in the ICU.
