At Life Beacon Bay Hospital everything we do is focused on the delivery of high quality treatment and special, unique standards of care - whether for routine, more serious or extensive procedures. Our facilities include: - A 165 bed hospital with 6 theatres
- A 6 bed adult ICU
- 35 bed maternity unit including a VIP suite complete with queen-sized bed and opulent décor – for the discerning patient
- A state of the art 21 bed neonatal intensive care unit
- Brand new 34 bed paediatric ward
- A radiology facility, with a comprehensive range of sophisticated diagnostic equipment
Little Life clinic
We know that life with a newborn can be daunting – especially without the support of professionals who can assist you with guidance on breastfeeding, monitor your baby’s development and milestones and offer you advice on what to except in the coming months. That’s why Life Beacon Bay Hospital is providing these and other applicable services at our little Life clinic. Our clinic offers: - Breastfeeding and bottle-feeding assistance and advice;
- General advice with referrals to and from doctors, audiologists and physiotherapists;
- Jaundice checks;
- Tracking baby’s developmental milestones as well as weighing and measuring baby at each vaccination;
- Specific sessions dedicated to special needs and premature babies.

Ante Natal Classes
Weekly ante-natal classes at the hospital help to prepare parents-to-be for the arrival of their little life. The six-week course will prepare you and your partner for the birthing process, inform you of the various pain relief options and enlighten you on what to expect from the minute you go into labour.
Included in the R750 cost for the six-week course is a 4-D scan, unlimited visits to the little Life clinic in Southernwood and parenting classes.

At Life Beacon Bay Hospital, we take pride in providing you with information and pre-operative counselling, so that your recuperation with us is pleasant and hassle-free.

Accommodation
Accommodation at our hospital includes:
- Day beds
- Private wards
- Semi-private wards
- Intensive care units
Every ward has its own television set with DStv. Private and semi-private wards are all en-suite.
Admission
Our admission process can be made much easier for you, if the following simple guidelines are followed.
- Medical aid patients should check with their medical aid / scheme prior to admission to obtain pre-authorisation, if deemed necessary by the medical aid / scheme.
- Patients must present their medical aid card and identity document on admission. Persons under the age of 18 have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- To speed up admission, a pre-admission form is available from the resident doctor`s rooms and the hospital`s reception, and should be either handed through to the hospital`s reception or faxed through to us prior to hospitalisation. Please click here to find our contact details.

Discharge
On leaving, do not forget to collect your medication and x-rays. A member of staff will escort you to the main foyer from the ward.
Pre-Admission centre
We understand how stressful it is to be booked into hospital for surgery, particularly when you have never been a patient in a hospital before.
The Life hospitals in the Border region has two pre-admission centres. The aim of the pre-admission centre is to streamline the admission process and assist to allay the fears of patients by providing information on the surgery to be performed. We also assist with obtaining pre-authorisation form the medical aids.
The Pre-admission centres are at:
Life St Dominics hospital, 45 St Marks Road, Southernwood. Tel: (043) 707 9000; and
Life Beacon Bay Hospital, 32 Quenera Drive, Beacon Bay. Tel: 043 711 5100. The Life Beacon Bay Hospital pre-admission centre is open from 08:00 to 17:00 on week days.
Service monitoring
In keeping with our goal to continue providing high quality care; we monitor our service to patients on an ongoing basis. A few days after your discharge from hospital, you will either receive a sms or an e-mail requesting participation in a very short survey about your hospital stay. This survey is voluntary but by completing the survey you are assisting hospital management to address any problems and to improve the quality care we offer.

Tariffs
- Our hospital charges patients at medical aid / medical scheme rates.
- A prepayment is required on hospitalisation, from patients not covered by medical aid or a medical scheme.
- It is recommended that private patients contact the hospital`s accounts department prior to admission to establish the estimated hospital cost.
- Patients requesting accommodation in private wards will be requested to pay the private ward rate on admission.
Visiting hours
We welcome all of our patients` visitors, as we know what a difference the support of close family and friends can make to a patients recovery. In light of this we have introduced open visiting times in our hospital. Our visiting hours are: General Wards: - 11:00 - 12:00
- 14:00 - 20:00
Intensive Care Unit (ICU): - 11:00 - 12:00
- 15:00 - 16:00
- 19:15 - 20:00
Only the immediate family of the patient are permitted to visit whilst the patient is in ICU. A maximum of 2 visitors will be allowed per bed, and no children under the age of 12 years will be permitted in the ICU. Visitors will be asked to leave the unit if the need arises when caring for other patients. Please note the following for visiting the Maternity unit: - Dads only between 08:00 and 11:00
- Open visiting time is between 11:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 20:00
- No children under the age of 12 are allowed, except for the siblings of the newborn baby
- The baby’s father is welcome to visit at any time, except during the compulsory rest period between 13:00 and 14:00
- Only 2 visitors per patient
- Only the mother and father of the newborn baby are allowed into the well baby nursery
- No visiting between 22:00 and 08:00
